China’s CXMT Moves Into Mass Production With New-Generation Memory Chip Platform
BEIJING — September 20, 2026: China’s leading memory-chip manufacturer, ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), has announced that its fifth-generation DRAM technology platform has entered mass production, marking another major step in the country’s semiconductor industry.
The company says the new manufacturing platform is designed to produce higher-capacity memory chips while reducing power consumption and production costs. The technology is aimed at devices including smartphones and other portable electronics.
CXMT said its latest manufacturing process has reduced the spacing of key memory structures to 11.95 nanometres. The company also said the new platform can produce at least 50% more gross chip dies per wafer than its previous-generation platform.
New 24Gb LPDDR5X chips introduced
Alongside the new platform, CXMT unveiled two 24-gigabit LPDDR5X memory products. According to the company, the new chips can store 50% more data than its previous equivalent products and have already entered mass production.
The development comes as China continues efforts to strengthen its domestic semiconductor supply chain and reduce dependence on overseas chipmaking technologies.
CXMT's progress could increase competition in the global DRAM market, where Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix and Micron remain major suppliers.
