LONDON — The Fazl Mosque in Southfields, the first purpose-built mosque in London, marks its centenary on Saturday 3 October, 2026.
According to Globe Newswire, the historic mosque is celebrating "A Century of Integration, Loyalty and Service" with special events today.
Built in 1926, Fazl Mosque has served as a symbol of British Muslim heritage and integration for 100 years. Located in Southfields, Wandsworth, it was the first mosque in London built specifically as a mosque.
The mosque, with its distinctive white facade, green dome and minaret, has been listed by Historic England for its architectural and historical significance.
Local community leaders say the centenary is not just about a building, but about 100 years of Muslims contributing to British society, promoting peace, loyalty to the country and service to humanity.
Celebrations today include community gatherings, exhibitions on the mosque's history, and interfaith events highlighting its role in fostering understanding between communities in London.
