Michigan, USA – In a major test for American democracy and Muslim representation, the Michigan Senate race has been defined by anti-Muslim rhetoric, but the attacks seem to be failing.

According to today's 29 October 2026 reports, Republican attacks linking Democratic Senate candidate Dr Abdul El-Sayed, a Muslim-American physician and former Detroit Health Director, to the Muslim Brotherhood have found no evidence, as confirmed by The Associated Press investigation.

Former President Donald Trump has falsely accused El-Sayed of being a Muslim extremist at rallies. At the same time, his opponent Mike Rogers has tried to tie him to a "radical Islamic agenda." Speaking on NBC's "Meet the Press," Rogers claimed he was not criticising Islam but El-Sayed's agenda.

Political scientists at the University of Michigan have condemned this tactic. "He's a Muslim-American, and so Rogers is attempting to do his best to portray El-Sayed as an outsider who's dangerous," said Prof. Jonathan Hanson.

Despite the smear campaign, El-Sayed continues to lead in polls, focusing his campaign on "Health Care For All, Good Jobs, Democracy - Fighting for Michigan Families."

Dr El-Sayed, who would be the first Muslim-American Senator from Michigan if elected, has pushed back strongly, stating his faith teaches service and compassion, and he is running to represent all Michiganders.

This is being seen as a crucial moment for over 3.5 million Muslim voters in the USA ahead of the midterm elections.
